CD digipak reissue of the 1959 album from Jazz saxist Jimmy Giuffre and his trio with four cuts from a rare live performance in Rome added as bonus tracks. The original album features Red Mitchell on bass, replaced by Buddy Clark for the live recordings, taped just three months after the album was recorded. 11 tracks.

2008 release compiles all of Art Farmer and Jim Hall's live quartet recordings in their entirety including the 1963 Half Note performances and the extremely rare 1964 London concert. Features musical assistance from Steve Swallow, Walter Perkins and Pete La Roca. This material is presented here for the first time ever in one package.

As a bonus, three songs that complete the sessions which were absent from the original LP, as well as two rare live tracks recorded by Brookmeyer, Giuffre and Hall during a TV show have been added. This release includes an outstanding session by Farmer with the well known Super Jazz Trio of Tommy Flanagan with Reggie Workman and Joe Chambers. As a bonus, two more tracks by Farmer from session with the Jazztet, OF which “From Dream To Dream” was also recorded in quartet format, two 1976 Farmer-Flanagan collaborations in quintet format with Jim Hall.

This release contains the complete Jimmy Giuffre studio album Ad Lib, appearing here for the first time ever on CD [1-6]. Backed by Jimmy Rowles, Red Mitchell and Lawrence Marable, this quartet session mark one of the only “blowing date” Giuffre ever made, with only the head arrangements prepared.
