“Bitter Love Songs” is the first of Scott Fields’ recordings whose goal is extended blowing in the free-jazz tradition. All but one of the tracks on this CD follow the classic free-jazz model that masters such as Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy established.

One of the most significant forces in the new generation of jazz musicians in Portugal, pianist Júlio Resende was initially taught by one of the leading Portuguese jazz pedagogues, Zé Eduardo, and then followed by Rodrigo Gonçalves and Pedro Moreira. Resende had a classical background, but soon he found out he was not satisfied to play compositions he could not improvise over.

What does Tetterapadequ mean? Is it an obscure Italian or Portuguese term that reflects this ensemble's mix of two Italian and two Portuguese musicians? No it is not. It's an anagram of “De Patter Quartet, ” which was named after the De Pater jazz club in Haia, The Netherlands.
